Rules to the Game
A golf scramble is a team-based format where each member of the team—typically two to four players—hits a tee shot on every hole, then the team selects the best shot and all players play their next shots from that location. This process repeats after each shot until the ball is holed.
Only one team score is recorded per hole, and the team with the lowest total score at the end of the round wins.
Event Q&A
Q: Is this a handicap event?
A: No, this is not a handicap event. All participants will play head-to-head in a scramble format.
Q: Does everyone tee off from the same tees?
A: No. Women will tee off from women's tees, seniors from senior tees, and all other participants from men's tees. Specific tee placements will be explained at each event.
Q: Can amateurs maintain amateur status?
A: Yes. Amateurs wishing to retain their status may limit their winnings to $1,000, with any additional prize money distributed among their teammates according to amateur regulations.
Q: Is this a PGA-sanctioned event?
A: No, this event is not PGA-sanctioned. The PGA is a separate organization, and while we respect their traditions, our league operates independently.
Q: If I am an amateur and choose to forfeit my status, am I eligible to receive full prize winnings?
A: Absolutely. The American Golf League allows you the choice to maintain or forfeit amateur status as you see fit. We are a golf league, not a governing body for professional or amateur status.
Q: How are scores verified for accuracy?
A: Score verification is a priority. There will be a judge at every hole. After play, each golfer must sign their scorecard, as well as the opposing team, with final sign-off from the judge. Unsigned scores by judges will not be accepted.
Q: What happens if the teams cannot agree on a score or ruling?
A: In the case of a dispute, the judge and event coordinator will hear both sides and render a final decision.
Q: How are ties resolved?
A: Ties will be settled by a putt-off—similar to a hockey shootout—with each team member putting from a designated spot. The team making the most out of four putts will win.
Q: How is prize money distributed?
A: Cash prizes are awarded onsite to all winners, with receipts provided for every payout.
